Surrounded by picturesque islets and rocky outcrops, Gökkaya is a large bay that provides year-round shelter from the prevailing winds and is a favourite stop for yachts and gulets along this stretch of coastline. It is a great place to swim in the clear waters and sun bathe or, for the more adventurous, participate in water sports such as tubing or banana-boating. Fresh water flows into the bay from the mountains, creating a cold surface layer.
It can be accessed via three different entrances, and there are plenty of places to drop anchor with the muddy bottom perfect for holding.
The ancient city of Istlada is a short walk inland from the bay and is scattered with tombs and sarcophagi dating back to the 4th Century BC
The ‘Smugglers Inn’ is a famed bar in Gökkaya Bay with a unique party atmosphere where you can dance the night away, or just fall asleep aboard your vessel, listening to the water lapping at its sides.
